Registration is now open for the Top Pot Doughnuts 2nd Annual Doughnut Dash 5K Run & Walk. 2,800 to 3,000 registrants are expected.

The event will be Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Green Lake Park. The start and finish lines will be near the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N), and the course will utilize some city streets and the Green Lake loop. A course map can be seen on promotionevents.com.

The 5K Run and Walk will start at 9 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and a free 1K Kids’ Dash for kids twelve and under at 10 a.m.

At 10:05 a.m., the band Casper Babypants, featuring Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the United States of America, will perform. Free doughnuts and coffee will be available.

Every registrant will receive a free Top Pot doughnut after completing the race, and  the fastest man and woman in the 5K will each receive a round-trip airline ticket from Alaska Airlines.

Participants can register in advance for $30 online, by mail, or at several locations around Seattle, including Super Jock n Jill (7210 E Green Lake Dr N). On-site day-of-race registration is $40.

One dollar from each registration will be donated to Childhaven. Full registration details are available at promotionevents.com.

It’s a great event, but it would be greater if they would move the start/finish to the south end of greenlake, away from the Greenlake Community Center/Evans Pool. Moving would keep these event participents from taking up the few parking spots at the Community Center/Pool and the kids play area lot.

$1 out of $30 (or $40) will be donated? Seems a bit skimpy…are we sure about that?
