Supermoon visible over Green Lake

A supermoon, the largest full moon in more than 18 years, could be seen on Saturday night (March 19, 2011). Will Parker shared these great photographs with us that he and @CurlingRiver shot at Green Lake Park on Saturday. “We ran into a Buddhist meditation group admiring the moon,” Will says, “so we were able to take long exposures of very quiet, very still people. Wonderful.” Thank you, Will!

2011 Green Lake Spring Egg Scramble canceled

The 2011 Spring Egg Scramble at the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) has been canceled. The popular egg hunt is a victim of the City of Seattle’s 2011-12 Budget, which had severe impacts on the Department of Parks and Recreation’s operations at Green Lake Park. In addition to losing programing space, a total of five staff positions were lost at the Green Lake Community Center and the Green Lake Small Craft Center in January. Police search Green Lake for man who grabbed a jogger

Updated, 4:45 p.m. Sunday At 11:14 p.m. tonight (Saturday, March 19, 2011), we received a tip via twitter that police were searching Green Lake Park, near the Aqua Theater. At 11:40 p.m, we heard via the police scanner that the search had continued, and had moved to the south Green Lake neighborhood. One or more helicopters could be heard in the area. The 49th annual Green Lake Spring Regatta was today (Saturday, March 19, 2011). The all-day event, which centered around the Green Lake Small Craft Center (5900 W Green Lake Way N), was buzzing with excited racers and onlookers happy see sunshine and still waters.
