Seattle Public Schools releases transportation plan

Updated March 24 with information about McDonald Elementary School from our news partner My Wallingford. As school assignments start arriving in the mail, Seattle Public Schools has released its transportation zone plan for bus and walk zones for the 2011-12 school year. From the SPS website: In the new transportation plan, transportation eligibility for attendance area elementary and K-8 students will be based on transportation zones. Students within the transportation zone and outside the walk zone for a school will be eligible for District-provided transportation. Frustration over truck parked in east Green Lake leads to complaints to SPD

A truck which has been parked adjacent to the I-5 overpass in east Green Lake is a source of growing frustration to nearby residents, according to one resident who wishes to remain anonymous. The pickup truck, which is filled with plastic bags and empty plastic containers, has been parked next to the freeway’s overpass for at least three months. “Aside from it being a total eye sore,” the resident told us, “there can be between two and five camper vehicles in the area at the same time, and I don’t want to see the area turn into a transient hub.”…

Costumed naturalist ‘Talking Tree’ coming to Green Lake Library for special story time

The Green Lake Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr N) is hosting a special Talking Tree story time on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 11:15 – 11:45 a.m. Preschoolers will enjoy songs, stories and activities with a costumed naturalist from the Seward Park Environmental and Audubon Center. The event is designed to teach young children about their urban environment. The Talking Tree naturalist will engage the children in songs, stories and activities. The program is free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required.

Author Judy Ferro to read from historical novel ‘Desiderata’ at Cafe Bonjour
