2011 Top Pot 5K Doughnut Dash at Green Lake Park

Updated Saturday, April 23. Registration is now open for the Top Pot Doughnuts 2nd Annual Doughnut Dash 5K Run & Walk. 2,800 to 3,000 registrants are expected. The event will be Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Green Lake Park. The start and finish lines will be near the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N), and the course will utilize some city streets and the Green Lake loop. Green Lake band ‘Hotels’ is a semifinalist in Billboard’s Battle of the Bands contest

New Wave / post-punk / surf band Hotels is one of three northwest semifinalists in Billboard.com’s Battle of the Bands contest, a nation-wide search for an unsigned band which will perform live at the Billboard Music Awards. Two of the four members of Hotels live in the Green Lake neighborhood. Frontman Blake Madden is located in east Green Lake, and the band’s drummer lives just north of the lake. “One of our northwest competitors, Grynch, calls himself the King of Ballard,” Blake tells us. “Well, we are royal residents of the Lake.” Billboard.com is now accepting online Battle of the Bands votes….

Green Lake author celebrates release of new teen book with geocache

Tomorrow evening (March 31, 2011) at 7 p.m., Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) is presenting a panel of four local young adult authors. One of the featured authors, Green Lake resident Lisa Cach, wrote to let us know that a geocache has been created in honor of her new book, Wake Unto Me, which is being released tomorrow. “Geocaching is an immensely popular, family-friendly activity where you find caches using a GPS unit,” Lisa explains.  Copies of Wake Unto Me can be found in the cache, she says, “as well as lots of other goodies, including gift certificates to Mockingbird Books and…

‘Art Chix’ art opening at Cafe Lulu this Saturday night

The world premier of “Art Chix” will be this Saturday (April 2, 2011), 6-9 p.m., at Cafe Lulu (6417 Latona Ave NE). Artists Nancy Jenkins, Leah Kaufman, Dana Nunnelly, Roseanne Olson, Cary Pillo, Anna Rhodes, D. Lisa West, and Sheryl Westergren will be showing their work, which is currently on display on the walls of Cafe Lulu.
