Rose pruning demonstration at Woodland Park Rose Garden

There will be a free rose pruning demonstration at the Woodland Park Rose Garden on Saturday, March 5, 2011, 12 – 3 p.m. The rose garden is located adjacent to the Woodland Park Zoo at N 50th St & Fremont Ave N. The demonstration, which is hosted by the Seattle Rose Society, will include many annual rose pruning practices such as where to cut, how much to cut, how to use your tools properly for correct cuts, the types of roses and respective pruning techniques. Winter break camp for Grades 4-9 at the Seattle Public Theater

The Seattle Public Theater (SPT) at the Green Lake Bathhouse (7312 West Green Lake Dr N) is offering a winter break camp for kids in 4th through 9th grade. The camp, “A Night at the Opera,” runs February 22-25 2011, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be a final sharing on Friday, Feb 25, at 4 p.m. The cost is $240. Financial aid is available. Green Lake’s Sunday photo: Than Brothers Pho

On Sundays, we feature a great shot of our park or neighborhood from the MyGreenLake Flickr Pool. This week’s photo was shot by Danny Ngan, a portrait and event photographer. The photo, titled “Small #9 at Than Bros.,” is a part of Danny’s personal project Project 365, for which he is taking a picture every day for a year. The Green Lake Than Brothers is located at 7714 Aurora Ave N. The local restaurant chain, which can be found in thirteen different Seattle-area locations, famously serves only Pho and cream puffs. Green Lake’s Station 16 on schedule to move to Marshall High parking lot in April

In April 2011, Green Lake’s Fire Station 16 (6846 Oswego Place NE) will be temporarily moving to the John Marshall High School parking lot (520 NE Ravenna Blvd). Fire Station 16, which was built in 1927, is getting an upgrade. The building will get a fresh coat of paint, seismic retrofits are being done, and new bathrooms and workout facilities for the fire fighters are being installed. Construction is projected to last until the beginning of 2012, when the station will return to its permanent location on Oswego Place NE. Green Lake’s World Wrapps goes dark

Green Lake’s World Wrapps has temporarily shut down. World Wrapps is located  at 7900 East Green Lake Dr N, in the same complex as Zeek’s Pizza, Ben & Jerry’s, Illustrated Salon Spa, Dr. Camille Sata, and Lakeside Dental Center. The storefront next door to the wrap shop has been vacant since May 2009, when Souped Up Cafe went out of business. It is unclear why World Wrapps has closed its doors.
