On Tuesdays, we publish a vintage postcard from Green Lake’s past. These postcards were generously shared with us by Green Lake residents Mark and Mary Griffin. (You can find previously-published postcards here, here, here, and here). This week’s card was mailed on Feb. 8, 1908 to the “Philippine Islands,” a term used by American colonialists to describe the Philippines during the first three decades of the twentieth century [source]. The card took more than a month to arrive at its destination. “Perhaps you will recognize this,” the card reads.
You can read about life in Green Lake during the decade between 1900 and 1909 here.
