The Friends of Green Lake meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at The Hearthstone (6720 E Green Lake Way N).

All are welcome to join the meeting, which will feature a summary of 2010 water quality monitoring at Green Lake and a comparison 2010 measurements to prior years.

Friends of Green Lake volunteers have monitored water quality since 2005 and have data from the last six years. “This may sound dull,” FOGL President Gayle Garman says, “but it can be quite interesting to see graphs showing Green Lake’s temperature and nutrient cycles, and see whether water clarity fluctuates similarly.”

The group initially formed to address the massive algae blooms in Green Lake.  Last month, Gayle says, algae scums formed again along Green Lake’s shoreline.  The monitoring data may provide some clues about the cause.
