Fees to use Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation fields dramatically increased on Jan. 1, 2011.
“As a result of strained budgets,” Joelle Hammerstad, a Parks and Recreation Public Information Officer told me, ”[Seattle City] Council decided to take some additional steps on charging for the use of ballfields.”
Fees for both adults and youth have gone up.
Youth practice time, for example, used to be just $2.50/hour during the regularly established season. The cost is now $6/hour.
The fee for youth games and meets (including the use of the facility, equipment, press box and PA system, ticket booth, locker rooms, and grandstands) has gone from $5/hour to $10/hour during season play.
In addition, youth teams did not used to be charged for the use field lights, and they will now be charged $20/hour.
