New express bus route connects Green Lake to Redmond

A new Sound Transit Express bus route now connects Green Lake, the U District, Overlake and downtown Redmond. Route 542 begins at the Redmond Transit Center and operates along the SR 520 corridor, with stops at Redmond City Hall, the SR 520/NE 51st Freeway Station, the Overlake Transit Center, Yarrow Point Freeway Station, and Evergreen Point Freeway Station. Including Mountlake Boulevard, the route makes six on-street stops in the University District before ending at the 65th Street Park-and-Ride in east Green Lake. The 2011 Love ‘em or Leave ‘em Valentine’s Day Dash

The Love ‘em or Leave ‘em Valentine’s Day Dash will return to Green Lake on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011.  More than 3,000 registrants are expected by organizers, who are encouraging carpooling. The 5K run/walk will begin on the southwest side of Green Lake, near the Aqua Theater, at 9:30 a.m.  A Kids’ Dash for kids 10 and under will begin at 10:15 a.m. Entry fees are $30 in advance, or you can register 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the event site, on the day of the race, for $40.  The Kids’ Dash is free. Hate crime charge filed in Green Lake attack

A Seattle man is facing a hate crime charge following allegations that he yelled racial slurs at a man, tackled him and claimed to be a U.S. marshal. Filing charges earlier in January, King County prosecutors claim 28-year-old James R. Maciel was armed with a knife when he accosted the man at a Green Lake neighborhood apartment on Jan. 6, 2011. Language immersion in 2011 for McDonald School?

This post comes to us from our news partner My Wallingford. Last night about 100 parents met with the McDonald Elementary School principal and Seattle Public Schools representatives to learn more about plans to create an international, language-immersion program at Wallingford’s newest school. When the decision to make McDonald an international school was announced last month, fall 2012 was the target date to begin language immersion for kindergarteners.
