New Green Lake Chamber of Commerce to meet monthly
On Jan. 13, 2011, several Green Lake business owners met to discuss the possibility of forming a Green Lake Chamber of Commerce. Attendees included representatives from Windermere Green Lake, Healing Tortoise Acupuncture and Herbs, Lifestyle Chiropractic, zoeyogurt, Seattle Public Theater, Handy Admin, Acupuncture Medical Center, Mud Puddle Fitness Center, Jodees Desserts, My Green Lake, Eben Design, and Robeks Smoothies. Student hit by car at Green Lake Elementary; speeding patrols to increase
Last Thursday (Jan. 13, 2011), a Green Lake Elementary School student was struck by a car. The student was hit around 3:50 p.m. on Sunnyside Ave N, the street which borders the west side of the school. “A child stayed after school and was playing on the playground unsupervised,” Principal Joanne Bowers explained in a bulletin sent to school parents. ”The student, who was running after a friend in a game of tag which went into the street right outside the playground, was hit by a car. Robert and William Weedin, Green Lake pioneer brothers
This piece of Green Lake history comes to us from Glenn Hanbey. Glenn, a recently retired Air Force Pilot now working for Boeing and living in the Auburn area, is the great, great grandson of Green Lake pioneer Robert Weedin. Glenn has been doing genealogical research on his Weedin roots for many years. He is currently researching the Weedin brothers’ participation in the bloody guerrilla warfare that took place in Missouri and Kansas during the Civil War.
