Updated 9:50 p.m.

There was a house fire tonight (Monday, Jan. 24, 2011) at 6006 5th Ave NE.

Green Lake’s Engine 16 was called to the scene at 7:02 p.m.  16 other emergency response units were called in the following 15 minutes.

By the time I arrived at 7:40 p.m., the fire was out but the home was still filled with heavy smoke.  I spoke with members of Engine 17, who told me that the fire was “very minor” and that there were no injuries.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been released, KIRO 7 reported over twitter that the fire began in the basement.  ”Woman in her 80s was inside,” KIRO tweeted, “but is out of the house and ok.”

Both 5th Ave NE and NE 60th St were still blocked to traffic when I left the scene at 8 p.m.

At 9:42 p.m., KIRO 7 tweeted that the American Red Cross is providing emergency shelter to three women who live in the house at 6006 5th Ave NE.
