Children’s author and artist Alex Beard will be at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at 11 a.m.

From Mockingbird Books:

On Friday, January 14th at 11 AM, Alex Beard, a New Orleans artist whose work is shown in galleries around the world, will be our guest reader at Storytime.

Alex has a new book, Monkey See, Monkey Draw, which is a charming tale about creativity and overcoming fears.   In this story set in Africa, the Monkey’s ball rolls into a cave. They are afraid to go get it, but Elephant talks them into venturing inside where they discover walls covered with paintings of animals.  Elephant shows them how they can create artwork using their hands and feet, but things are never as easy as they seem.

Not only will Alex read his book but the children will take part in Alex’s Kids’ Day Experience.  Picture a room filled with kids making art and having fun as Alex walks around doing quick sketches of each child’s favorite subject for inspiration, or simply for each child to color. Kids are afforded the opportunity to be creative on their own, to expand on what Alex has drawn, or create something entirely original.  All will have the chance to take home a piece of art that they created with Alex.
