From our Green Lake Events Calendar: Woodland Park Zoo’s Holiday Silent Auction begins today (Friday, Nov. 19, 2010) at noon and runs until 8 p.m. Saturday morning brings the Greenlake Run for Water, a benefit to support the construction and implementation of a bore hole that will provide clean and safe water to the people of Ilula, Kenya. Parks Department offers post-holidays Green Lake Boot Camp

Seattle Parks and Recreation is now offering a Boot Camp at Green Lake Park. From a news release sent yesterday (Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010): This six- week class offers an hour once or twice a week of the best body conditioning and muscle toning exercises for every body type and fitness level. Parks offers this class in keeping with its “Healthy Parks, Healthy You” initiative, which promotes physical activity and wellness programs that help individuals and families lead healthy lifestyles. Would you like to see lights installed around the Green Lake loop?

Reader Amy wrote to us a little while back with a question about Green Lake Park. Amy, who visits the park at night, asked if the Parks Department has ever considered putting in lighting around the Green Lake loop. 30,000+ Christmas lights soon to be on display at Tangletown home

Updated Nov. 30 Tangletown resident Jeff Rodenburg asked us to share the news that he will once again be decking out his home with a Christmas light display. You will be able to find the display on NE 57th St, just east of Latona Ave NE. Weather pending, the lights will be turned on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2910 and will be on every night through New Year’s Day, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  A musical light show will play every 30 minutes, starting at 5:30 p.m.  It will be broadcast over 102.1 FM. “It’s a pretty good size light display,”…

1,700 people expected in Green Lake this Sunday for the Green Lake Gobble and Mashed Potato Munch Off

The Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off is returning to Green Lake this Sunday (Nov. 21, 2010).  1,700 people are expected to attend. The event begins at 9:10 a.m. with a free Kids Dash, followed by a 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. and the Mashed Potato Munch Off at 10:45 a.m. The race course can be viewed here. Partial proceeds, as well as canned food collected onsite, will be donated to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, the official event benefactor.
