Free guided nature walks at Green Lake Park

A Seattle Parks and Recreation nature program is coming to Green Lake Park. From the “Explore Urban Nature” Fall 2010 catalog: See the unique qualities of your favorite park. Discover something special in a new place. What are the native plants?  What is the history? How can we find our own special connection? The free guided walks begin at the Green Lake Bathhouse (7312 West Green Lake Dr N).  The program is called “Nature’s Ambassadors” and is open to everyone aged 3 and up (kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Canlis menu found at former site of the Twin Teepees

This weekend in Green Lake

Some post-Thanksgiving happenings in the neighborhood, via the Green Lake Events Calendar: Today (Friday, Nov. 26, 2010) is the first day of the Green Lake Elementary School Christmas Tree Sale.  Stop by 1-8 p.m. Children’s author and illustrator Maggie Smith will be at Mockingbird Books tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. The lights go on at the Christmas lights display on NE 57th St, just east of Latona Ave NE, on Sunday evening.

Community Center update: Pathway of Lights saved, future of classes still uncertain

On Monday (Nov 22, 2010), Seattle City Council passed the city’s 2011-12 budget. Councilmember Jean Godden called this year’s budget “without a doubt, the most difficult” she has worked on since becoming chair of the City Council Budget Committee three years ago.  “Each year,” she said, “we have reduced city services and employment and we did so again this time around.” However, the Council was able to provide funding to restore 15 weekly drop-in hours at the Green Lake Community Center, in addition to the 15 initially proposed by Mayor McGinn.  (You can read more about the mayor’s proposed budget…
