Sadly, we have information about another neighborhood businesses that has closed its doors.
“The green lake florist” (the name was spelled using lower-case letters), previously located at 7212 Woodlawn Ave NE, is no longer open.
The shop first opened in July in a space previously used as an auxiliary computer lab by Billings Middle School.
In September, the doors closed and a sign was posted that read “We are undergoing a re-organization and will be temporarily closed until further notice.”
Earlier this month, the sign came down, replaced by a “For Lease” sign.
The green lake florist was owned by Terry Jones, who also owned Lake City Florist (11742 15th Ave NE). Both shops have closed.
“The floral industry is struggling,” he told me yesterday. “In these tough economic times, I just could not make a go of it.”
Terry reported that a friend of his will soon be opening a new florist shop near Roosevelt Way NE & NE 63rd St. This will be Green Lake’s closest florist shop. (Update, 10:30 p.m. – Roosiehood reports that the new florist shop will be called Heather’s Flowers and Gifts. It is scheduled to open on Monday, Nov. 22 at 6411 Roosevelt Way NE).
Terry plans to work part-time at the new shop. “I found being a small business comes with a lot of stress,” he said, “so I’ll be glad just to be an employee again.”
Best of luck, Terry!
