Update, Monday Nov. 22: Due to snow, this meeting has been canceled.  The next Friends of Green Lake meeting will be Jan. 25, 2011.

The Friends of Green Lake meets at 7 p.m. this Tuesday (Nov. 23, 2010) at The Hearthstone (6720 E Green Lake Way N).

Karl Bruun, an algologist, will be speaking at the meeting.  Bruun grew up in Green Lake and worked for many years identifying algae for the King County laboratory.  A photo he took of algae was a Nikon Image of Distinction in 2009.

Bruun will be showing  photos he has taken through a microscope, called “photo-micrographs,” of algae species found in Green Lake.

Rob Zisette, Aquatic Science Specialist at Herrera Environmental Consultants and a Friends of Green Lake volunteer, will also speak at Tuesday’s meeting.  He will provide commentary and insight on how the alum treatment changed the Green Lake algae community.

There will be a short business meeting after the two presentations.
