North Seattle Sarah: The Frostbite Regatta

Ed. note – Here’s the latest from contributor Sarah Heath.  Sarah, a real estate broker with Matrix Real Estate, writes about North Seattle life on her personal blog, North Seattle Sarah.  Every Saturday, Sarah brings us her musings on life in Green Lake.

What’s going on today at Green Lake Park?

If you haven’t already seen the crowds or heard the cheers, it’s the 46th Annual Frostbite Regatta.  Crew teams from around the state will be competing head-to-head all day long until about 5:30 tonight (Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010).

As I was running around Green Lake around 7:45 this morning, the event was being set up.  It was quite an elaborate sight to see: lots of teams (who knew so many people rowed?) and lots of supporters.  The Green Lake Crew Website reports that the event was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Results will be tweeted live all day at the handle @greenlakecrew for those that are interested in seeing who’s winning.

Planning on going to Green Lake today?  If you’re taking a casual stroll or would like to see the event, I highly recommend it.  It’s certainly something to see, there’s a lot going on and it’s a fun and unusual way to spend the day.  If you’re a serious runner or dog-walker, you might want to try a different route.  Even at 7:45 a.m., it was difficult to navigate the bulky crowds.
