Attendees at Tuesday night’s Friends of Green Lake meeting were treated to a historical presentation by Sue Nicol of Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks. Nicol spoke on the Olmsted history of Woodland Park and the Woodland Park Zoo. Nicol explained that in 1902, when the city of Seattle was only 50 years old, forward-thinking city leaders decided to plan a parks system that could be maintained for the next 100 years. Halloween weekend in Green Lake
From our Green Lake Events Calendar, here’s what’s happening this weekend (Oct. 29-31, 2010) in Green Lake: On Friday night, there will be a free Fall Pumpkin Swim at Evans Pool. It begins at 7 p.m. At 10 p.m. on Friday, a Halloween and Dias de Muertos party kicks off at Tacos Guaymas. Saturday afternoon brings another free event to Evans Pool: the Harvest Potluck begins at noon. Check out a free performance of Zombie Caesar at the Seattle Public Theater. Volunteers needed to weed and replant median islands in east Green Lake
Last summer, residents of the area around E Green Lake Way N and N 64th St raised some concerns about weedy median islands at that instersection. In response to these concerns, the Green Lake Community Council offered reimbursement for new plantings and put out a call to volunteers to help with clearing the weeds and replanting. Helicopter noise in Green Lake
Loud helicopter noise can be heard in Green Lake tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010). Our news partner U District Daily report that SPD’s Guardian One helicopter is flying over the Montlake Bridge area: 10:50 p.m. Police are searching for a mystery object that boaters said they encountered under the Montlake Bridge.
