SDOT unveils new Seattle walking map

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has just unveiled a new map of Seattle for pedestrians. The Seattle Walking Map was designed to help people choose a walking route that best suits their interests and individual fitness levels. The routes identified on the map come from a variety of sources including Feet First, King County, and SDOT.   Routes follow sidewalks, shoulders on quiet streets, and park trails. Volunteers needed to help restore Lower Woodland Park

Registration is now open for Green Seattle Day 2010. Green Seattle Day will be on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The event is a kick-off to the forest restoration work the Green Seattle Partnership plans to do in 2010-11. “Without a coordinated effort,” the online event posting reads, “Seattle is at risk of losing 70% of its forests in just 20 years. A peek inside Green Lake’s future organic bakery, Jodee’s Desserts

Work continues at 7214 Woodlawn Ave NE, the future home of Jodee’s Desserts. Nestled between Mockingbird Books and the green lake florist, this location was completely gutted by an electrical fire in March.  Restoration work began this summer.  Bakery owners Butch Capo and Jodee Capo estimate that they will be opening their doors in late November. The bakery will sell fresh and organic desserts that are free of dairy, wheat, gluten, GMOs, refined sugars, chemicals, preservatives, and fillers. Light the Night Walk returns to Green Lake Park this Saturday evening

The Light the Night Walk returns to Green Lake Park this Saturday (Sept. 25th, 2010). The yearly event is a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Walkers carry illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. 2010 Luminata lantern parade at Green Lake Park this Tuesday
