News from the Friends of Green Lake: September meeting and new work parties to restore habitat for native birds

The Friends of Green Lake (FOGL) is meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2010) in The Hearthstone‘s board room (6720 E Green Lake Way N).  The meeting begins at 7 p.m. All are welcome at FOGL meetings.  This Tuesday’s meeting agenda includes an update on milfoil in Green Lake and announcements about Green Lake and Woodland Parks from Kevin Stoops, Seattle Parks and Recreation‘s Director of Planning and Development. ____________ FOGL is also kicking off monthly work parties to restore habitat for native birds.  Work parties will be on the first Saturday of each month, beginning next Saturday (October 2, 2010),…

Mayor McGinn to announce his proposed 2011 budget on Monday

The City of Seattle is facing a $67 million general fund deficit for 2011. City parks and recreation facilities, public libraries, and community center programs are all potentially vulnerable to budget cuts. Mayor Mike McGinn will give his 2011 City of Seattle Budget Address at 12 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at the Rainier Beach Community Center (8825 Rainier Ave S).  The Budget Address is open to the public (RSVP online) and the speech will be livestreamed online by the Seattle Channel. Metro Route 16 rerouted in east Green Lake tomorrow (Saturday)

A note from King County Metro Transit: Due to construction work at the Pacific Color building, Route 16 is being rerouted tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010), 4 a.m. through 8 p.m. The reroute only affects the stop on Woodlawn Ave NE between NE 71st St. and NE 72nd St.  Bus riders are advised to use stops north of NE 72nd St or south of NE 71st.

Street mural painting party this Sunday in north Green Lake (UPDATE – rescheduled to Friday)

Update: Due to rain and wet pavement on Sunday, the Stone Avenue Street Painting has been re-scheduled to Friday, October 1, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. _______________________ This Sunday (Sept. 26, 2010) between 12p.m.- 5 p.m., a street mural will be painted on Stone Ave N between N 80th St and Green Lake Drive N, next to Bethany Community Church and across the street from Daniel Bagley Elementary School.
