Green Lake Elementary School is hosting a party to celebrate the grand opening of school’s Olallie Native Garden.

The party will be this Saturday (October 2, 2010), 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Green Lake Elementary School (2400 N 65th St).  There will be food, coffee and juice, garden tours.  Music will be provided by Steve Hansen, Angela Blemker, and the Northwest Junior Pipe Band.

The garden, which was built with with community support, was funded in part by the City of Seattle’s Neighborhood Matching Fund.  The previous garden on the site was  improved by making it accessible to kids with disabilities, adding an outdoor classroom for instructional activities, and constructing sustainable elements.
