Registration is now open for Green Seattle Day 2010.

Green Seattle Day will be on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The event is a kick-off to the forest restoration work the Green Seattle Partnership plans to do in 2010-11.

“Without a coordinated effort,” the online event posting reads, “Seattle is at risk of losing 70% of its forests in just 20 years. The Green Seattle Partnership is reversing the trend by mobilizing thousands of volunteers to restore 2,500 acres by 2025.”

Green Seattle Day volunteers will plant native trees and shrubs in 20 parks across the city.

Ref Lindmark, who represents the Green Lake Community Council on Woodland Park Zoo‘s Neighborhood Liaison Committee, tells us that the zoo is partnering with the Green Seattle Partnership at Green Seattle Day.

200 volunteers are expected to attend a work party at Lower Woodland Park.   Volunteers will lend a hand with invasive species removal, native planting and trail clearing.  The Green Seattle Partnership and Earth Corps will provide tools for the day’s restoration activities.

The zoo will be offering complimentary zoo admission passes to volunteers at the event.
