The Friends of Green Lake (FOGL) is meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2010) in The Hearthstone‘s board room (6720 E Green Lake Way N).  The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

All are welcome at FOGL meetings.  This Tuesday’s meeting agenda includes an update on milfoil in Green Lake and announcements about Green Lake and Woodland Parks from Kevin Stoops, Seattle Parks and Recreation‘s Director of Planning and Development.

FOGL is also kicking off monthly work parties to restore habitat for native birds.  Work parties will be on the first Saturday of each month, beginning next Saturday (October 2, 2010), starting at 9 a.m. and ending by noon.  Everyone is welcome to join in.

The first project is to restore the red-winged blackbird nesting habitat on the west shoreline of Green Lake, north of the turtle-logsGayle Garman, President of FOGL, says that the project is for volunteers who don’t mind being outside.  She explains that the work party will involve “wrestling with blackberries,” but that “there are less athletic roles, too, for example, setting up the FOGL signs, taking photos, or fetching coffee.”

Volunteers will meet at the Bathhouse Theater (7312 W Green Lake Dr N) on Saturday at 9 a.m.  Tools, boots, and heavy gloves will be available, or you can bring your own. Dress for the weather.

Please RSVP for the work party via email to FriendsofGL [at] gmail.com.
