Turnpike Pizza is turning one!
Last September, Ric Monteiro, Turnpike’s owner, gave away free slices all day at his Grand Opening party. Now he’s doing it again to celebrate one year in business.
Come by Turnpike Pizza (6900 E Green Lake Way N) on Labor Day (Monday, September 6, 2010), 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., for a free slice of pizza.

WOW we made it. Opening a traditional pizzeria in the fittest city in the country in the middle of a recession may sound risky to the average person, however with full faith that Green Lake would be an awesome spot, and knowing that Seattle needed an alternative to the old and tired local-chain options, I had no doubt we would make it.
I want to pay special gratitude to the mavericks who came in the first week and are still loyal customers (Bill, Mike, Justin, Matt, etc) also new moms with their babies and strollers who drop by for a quick lunch. I also want to thank Anika and the Vegan Score folks for supporting us, and making us a vegan favorite spot, and with vegan fans as far as Capitol Hill and Belltown.
To the many moms and dads who have been bringing in the family for their weekly pizza outing, and to the many Green Lake runners, including members of Team in Training, who have been so good to Turnpike over the past year, and to all of our regulars…THANK YOU.
Here is what is new and what is coming in the next year. Turnpike just started daytime corporate catering service with an added menu of sandwiches to compliment our pizza menu. Turnpike also has a new Happy Hour…or should I call it Siesta as it lasts from 2:00-6:00 p.m., where you can get any draft beer for ½ off. And….by the spring of 2011 we hope to have our outdoor seating setup, which is one of the most asked for features. Also, another highly asked for item is coffee…stay tuned…it’s coming.
Last but not least I would like to thank my crew, who do everything right and love the pizza as much as I do. Dave, Ryan, Evan, Carlee, Joe, Matt, Tieler, Brandon and the many who have moved onto new things. And to Amy of My Green Lake who helped spread the word about all that is Turnpike. THANK YOU.
