'Take Back Your Lunch' at Green Lake Park

The Energy Project’s Take Back Your Lunch campaign is coming to Green Lake.

The campaign invites workers across America to take a collective lunch break every Wednesday this summer:

Step away from your desk, turn off your phone (if you dare) and commit to a lunch hour of renewal, not work. Go to the park with friends, work out, read a book, anything – just don’t work. You’ll feel re-energized and ready to conquer the afternoon.

Seattle Gems is hosting a Take Back Your Lunch event on Wednesdays in August (August 4, 11, 18 & 25, 2010), 12:00 – 1:30 p.m., on the lawn on the southeast side of Green Lake.

We’ll have blankets spread out and plenty of conversation to spare, just BYOLunch. Take a well deserved break from work and join us in “Bringing Global Local” – our aim is to heighten awareness of community… connections within our local city neighborhoods while we still have some gorgeous Seattle sunshine to enjoy!

I love this idea. I have worked at some horrible places, all of which had one thing in common: they forced employees to take no more than 30 minutes for lunch. Nothing says “low morale” more than a management team that values their employees so little that they basically hold them hostage for 8.5 hours a day without any recognition of their need for a break to get away, grab a bite, run an errand, get some exercise, see their friends or family, etc. Just another example of the failed leadership in companies that inspires employees to nothing more than mediocrity. I should write a book.

On that note, I would love to participate, but I have to work. Although, I would risk being fired if I could have lunch on a blanket with the cute blond boy in the video. Just sayin'.
