Permaculture educator Marisha Auerbach is bringing her “Seedsaving as an Activist Practice” workshop to Green Lake.  A seed exchange will follow the presentation.

The workshop is tomorrow night (Saturday, August 21, 2010), 7-9 p.m., at Yogalife’s Greenlake Studio (7200 Woodlawn Ave NE).  The cost is $7 – $10 (sliding scale).  Participants are asked to bring seeds to share.

Seed saving gives us the unique opportunity to dance with life and play a distinct role in our nourishment. We can nurture plants for the special qualities that sustain us in uncertain futures. As corporations attempt to take control of our genetic diversity, seed saving becomes an important political act.

Come join us to learn how you can take responsibility for your own food supply by saving your own seed from your garden. We will be discussing harvest of cultivated and native seeds as well as flowers and vegetable crops.Seed saving is a great localized buffer against the globalization of our food supply as it encourages diversity and increases the resilience in our gardens from pests and disease.

For more information about the workshop or to register, contact Marisha Auerbach at queenbee [at] herbnwisdom.com or (360) 789-0799.

That’s great that you grabbed my photo. Those aren’t actually seeds I’ve collected (just a package of basil seeds I purchased), but I do have quite a few collected seeds. Good luck with the initiative, hopefully your seed swap is a great success!
