On Thursday (August 5, 2010), C.J. Wilson and David Murphy of the Texas Rangers were in Green Lake, eating breakfast at Beth’s Cafe.
This afternoon (Saturday, August 7, 2010), another pitcher made an appearance in the neighborhood. Self-described “Seattle sports freak” Matt Cuellar spotted Mariners pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith at the Green Lake Starbucks (7100 East Green Lake Dr N) at 12:15 p.m. and snapped this picture:
News spread fast around twitter. Even the folks behind the Starbucks twitter feed, which has almost a million followers, took notice, tweeting “Thanks for stopping by Greenlake! What’s your drink?”.
Rowland-Smith responded to the attention with a friendly note to Cuellar: “Well say hi next time!” and “I think u captured my girl amanda makin fun of me for the girly drink!”, later revealing to another fan that “amanda” is actress Amanda Aardsma, who is Mariners pitcher David Aardsma‘s sister.
This wasn’t Rowland-Smith first visit to our neighborhood. On Thursday, he tweeted that he was watching the Freestyle Disc World Championships at Green Lake Park, and today he told another fan that, in addition to Starbucks, his favorite coffee shops are 72nd Street Café (308 NE 72nd St) and Zoka (2200 N 56th St).
Enjoy your time in Green Lake, Ryan and Amanda!
