Now showing at Cafe Lulu: Artist Thomas Allsopp

Some new art is on display at Cafe Lulu (6417 Latona Ave NE). The artist, Thomas Allsopp, is a former priest and a Chaplin at Seattle Children’s Hospital.  He is a Green Lake resident and a regular customer at Cafe Lulu. “He doesn’t have a website,” Cafe Lulu’s Karen Laurie says, “so if people want to see it, they have to see it in person! Tangletown's Meridian Market for sale

Tangletown’s Meridian Market (2201 N 56th St) is being put up for sale.  Owner Wally Wright says that he will be meeting with a broker today (Wednesday, August 11, 2010) and a listing will be available shortly. Learn to can and freeze peaches this Saturday (August 14, 2010) at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the market, located at 6501 Aurora Ave N, on the same lot as the U-Haul truck-rental business. Green Lake cats rescued by local roofing company

My Green Lake reader James Cameron sent us a touching story from northwest Green Lake. “For three days beginning last Friday,” James writes, “our cats were stuck on top of a neighbor’s roof, afraid to come down because of the steep grade. Despite repeated attempts by neighbors using ladders, handcrafted sky bridges and water hoses, we couldn’t get them to budge from their high perches.” By Sunday afternoon, the cats still had not come down from the roof.  James and his family were getting desperate.  They looked for a local company that specializes in rescuing animals from steep roofs and…

Pigs Peace Sanctuary’s Walk for the Animals 2010

The Pigs Peace Sanctuary is holding its annual Walk for the Animals at Green Lake Park on Saturday, September 4, 2010.  Check-in begins at 10:15 a.m. and the walk starts at 11 a.m. 100% of registration fees ($15) and walker sponsorships go to Pigs Peace Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe home for unwanted, abused or neglected animals in need.  Prizes will be awarded to the walkers that earn the most money in pledges for the sanctuary.
