Free performances of Much Ado About Nothing – and free frozen custard! – at Seattle Public Theater this weekend

All summer, we’ve been treated to free shows at the Seattle Public Theater (SPT) at the Green Lake Bathhouse (7312 West Green Lake Dr N). Sadly, the summer is drawing to an end and only three free shows remain. You can still catch a free Youth Program performance of Much Ado About Nothing tonight (Friday, August 27th, 2010) at 7 p.m. or tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. Directed by Shana Bestock, SPT’s 14-18 year-olds perform Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare’s sexy, side-splitting comedy about two very convoluted courtships. Green Lake's Streetwise Gardener: The Shape of Things

From Adam and Eve’s fig leaves to the Marlboro Man, humans have a long tradition of using plants for their own devices. Agriculture, medicine, pleasure drugs and poisons are just some of the fascinating ways, but I’m talking here  about sculpting plants. Police search for missing four-year-old boy in Green Lake Park

8:40 p.m. We just heard from My Green Lake reader Christina, who wrote with some scary news. At about 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday, August 26, 2010), Christina, who was walking at Green Lake Park, encountered some police.  They were looking for a missing boy. Cole, age four, was last seen riding a green bike. As of 8:50 p.m., Cole is, as far as we know, still missing.  Christina’s husband is heading down to the lake to help with the search effort. In the meantime, we are listening to the police scanner.  As of yet, there is no new news to…

Animal Talk Rescue, a no-kill animal rescue organization, is hosting a car and dog wash at the Roosevelt Square Whole Foods Market (1026 NE 64th St) this Saturday (Aug 28, 2010), 1 – 4 p.m. We’ll be raising funds to help Animal Talk Rescue do all the amazing work they do helping animals find loving homes! Attention Green Lake parents: Children’s author Kathleen Hunter, who lives in Green Lake, is launching a series of blog posts about Green Lake businesses for you to share with your children.
