Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee seeks volunteers
A Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee has formed. The committee is working with the City of Seattle Emergency Operations Center and members of other community planning groups, including the Wallingford Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee. The Green Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee aims to have a plan in place so that Green Lake residents can get information and help in the event of an emergency or disaster. Garbage can fire at Green Lake Park
A garbage can caught on fire tonight (Saturday, July 17, 2010) at Green Lake Park. Green Lake’s Engine 16 was dispatched to the fire at 10:38 p.m. The fire truck parked in front of Greenlake Guest House (7630 E Green Lake Dr N). Blayne McAferty, innkeeper at the Greenlake Guest House, shared the following report: Firefighters thought it may have been started when a person put a cigarette in the can without extinguishing it. Firefighters left about 11:00pm.

Email discussion group for neighbors of Bethany Lutheran Church
A Yahoo! Group, SHAREneighbors, has formed for neighbors of Green Lake’s Bethany Lutheran Church (7400 Woodlawn Ave NE). Many Green Lake residents have expressed concerns over the opening of a SHARE homeless shelter at the church. The shelter opened on Thursday night (July 15, 2010). As neighbors within the immediate vicinity of this church, this group provides a convenient way to exchange information and keep each other informed.
