Car prowlers continue to target Green Lake

We recently reported on what seems to be an uptick in car prowls in Green Lake.  Now that police reports are available online, a quick glance at the Police Reports Map shows eleven reported car prowls in Green Lake in the last week alone.

The issue has shown up twice in local media in recent days.

In a widening of an investigation into a Bellevue-based burglary and identity-theft ring, charges have been filed against a pair accused of bilking an Alzheimer’s disease-stricken woman and stealing the identities of at least 16 people.

King County prosecutors contend Richard Clarence Lafromboise stole thousands from his own mother, who suffers from the degenerative brain disease. And they contend his girlfriend, Paris Christine Coulter, was happy to help.

Most of the couple’s victims, though, were strangers who’d lost their credit cards and checkbooks to thieves during a series of car break-ins and purse thefts from several Seattle locales, particularly Green Lake, according to charging documents.

Heroin was the couple’s aim, a Bellevue detective on the case claimed in charging documents filed earlier this month. Identities, the claim goes, were the currency they used to buy and sell the drug. [...]

Inside the [couple's] home, detectives found IDs, checks and bank cards belonging to 16 people. Checks and other items belonging to five Seattle women whose cars were separately broken into at Green Lake were recovered at the home, as were items from a purse stolen at upscale Belltown restaurant.
