Back in May, we warned you that it is very likely that some Seattle park facilities will soon be closed, due to Seattle Parks and Recreation budget cuts.
At that time, Mayor McGinn said that he would announce budget cut specifics by Tuesday, June 1, and the cuts would be in effect Thursday, July 1.
June 1 has come and gone, and there has been no word of which, if any, community centers and pools will be closing on July 1.
Thanks to the excellent reporting on West Seattle Blog, we now know that cuts will be announced this Monday, June 14, 2010 at the 10:30 a.m. Seattle City Council Budget Committee meeting.
We’ll be at the meeting at will be live tweeting what we hear. Later that day, we’ll post details of the cuts on My Green Lake.
Keep your fingers crossed for Evans Pool and the Green Lake Community Center.
Update, 7:45 p.m.: Tracy Record of West Seattle Blog is live tweeting from tonight’s Parks Board meeting. While we were writing this post, she tweeted that Acting Superintendent Christopher Williams reported that the cuts may be announced tomorrow (Friday, June 11, 2010)! We’ll keep you posted.
Update, 8:15 p.m.: Tracy reports that the mention of “tomorrow” was tentative.
Just in case, we’ll be keep an eye on things tomorrow and will let you know what we hear.
