The Seattle Public Library announced today that the entire library system will close Monday, August 30 through Sunday, September 5, 2010 due to citywide budget cuts. Monday, September 6 is the Labor Day holiday and all libraries will be closed. Regular Library operations will resume Tuesday, September 7. All city departments have implemented cuts to help address a total $67 million gap in the 2010 city budget. The Library is funded from the city general fund. Two purses found near Green Lake Library
Two purses have been found in northeast Green Lake. The purses were found stashed beneath a juniper bush across the driveway from Bethany Lutheran Church (7400 Woodlawn Ave NE), one block up from the Green Lake Library. The purses are both leather. One is red and one is white. If you think that one of these purses may belong to you, please send us a description of your missing purse. We’ll forward along your message to the good Samaritan who picked the purses up.
Water polo returns to Green Lake
Last August, My Green Lake tipster Mitch shared this video footage that he captured of a water polo game on Green Lake: We just got word, once again via Mitch, that water polo (a.k.a. kayak polo) has returned to Green Lake. According to the “Seattle Kayak Polo” Facebook page, the first Green Lake game of the season was held on the evening of Monday, May 17, 2010. The group returned on Monday, June 7 and again yesterday (Monday, June 14) at 6 p.m. Games take place north of the Greenlake Boat Rentals (7351 E Green Lake Drive N).
Rent-to-own store coming to former Stupid Prices building
News from Aurora|Seattle: Aurora|Seattle received confirmation today from Rod Swift of JSH Properties, Inc. that a lease agreement has been reached with the new tenant of the former Stupid Prices building at 7906 Aurora Avenue. Aaron’s rental, a rent-to-own store with over 1700 locations in the U.S. and Canada, hopes to open its doors by August 1. [...] And, yes, they do intend to paint over the infamous yellow exterior of the building! Aurora|Seattle also reports that “there are whispers that someone may be preparing the former 1/2 Price Pots lot [8101 Aurora Ave N] for a condo development.”
