Post updated, 10 p.m. It’s looking as though another bout of car prowls has hit Green Lake. My Green Lake reader Nicole sent us this note yesterday: We live on the 5800 block of Mckinley Place North and we had a car break last night [Friday, June 18, 2010]. They ransacked our car and left the door ajar. Most likely they left disappointed because we have nothing of value inside and and endless supply of stale fish crackers on the floor (we have kids). On Thursday, June 17, word of car prowls at Roosevelt Way NE & NE 71st St…

Happy Father's Day, Green Lake dads!
In honor of all of you Green Lake dads, we’re republishing this piece by artist John Osgood of Bherd Studios Gallery, an urban contemporary art gallery located in Greenwood (8537 Greenwood Ave N): John Osgood is one of the artists behind the “Awake to a New Aurora” neighborhood mural and the Greenwood penguins. Thanks for sharing your art with us, John!
The ground under your Green Lake house: Stable or slumping after The Big One hits?
I recently received some interesting information from Carol Dunn, professional “Disaster Guru,” about the risks we face in the Green Lake neighborhood should an earthquake strike. On Solid Ground? Bagley Elementary has a field day – literally
Hula hoops, hoppity hops and giant footballs soared through the air above Green Lake Playfield today (June 18, 2010) as 300-plus students from Daniel Bagley Elementary rolled, wiggled, jumped and kicked their way to fitness for its annual Field Day Friday. Led by the Health and Fitness program, the event offered more than 15 athletic “stations” to try. The event is non-competitive; there were no prizes, although checking off three stations on your playcard earned junior jocks an ice pop. The sun stuck around mellowed by a pleasant breeze offering the perfect backdrop for lawn games including sack-races, hurdles, obstacle…
Local businesses help grow Bagley Elementary School garden
As My Green Lake reported in April, Daniel Bagley Elementary is renovating its Outdoor Classroom and Learning Garden. Since then, local businesses have been adding their support – and their shoulders - to the cause. The new organic edible garden will accommodate a planting bed for each of Bagley’s 18 classrooms, and one custom-made “community table” for weekend workshops. Surplus produce will be donated locally. The goal is to have students assembling beds and planting in September. Today (June 18, 2010), staff from Windermere Real Estate’s Green Lake office got their cardio “staging” the Bagley garden in a volunteer work day….
