This weekend in Green Lake

What’s happening this weekend (Friday June 25 – Sunday June 27, 2010)? Wading Pool Opens on Saturday (weather pending…) The Green Lake wading pool dodged the budget bullet and will be opening for the season on Saturday. The wading pool is located on the north end of Green Lake at the intersection of Wallingford Ave N and E Green Lake Drive N. The wading pool will be open 7 days per week, 11 a.m – 8 p.m, through September 6, but only on sunny days when the temperature is forecast to be 70 degrees or above.  You can check the…

North Seattle host familes sought for French exchange program

Ballard High School teacher Jill Zawatski is looking for local families interested in hosting French students and their chaperone this summer. Zawatski is coordinating a summer French exchange program through the France-based organization Mondes Nouveaux. The students will be in Seattle July 29 through August 18, 2010. While all of the students have already been placed with host families, Zawatski is still in need of a North Seattle host family for their chaperone Nathalie, who is 29 years old: A school teacher from Paris, Nathalie is the French chaperone who is traveling to Seattle with 15 teenagers this summer.  During…

Green Lake running-related businesses featured on KUOW

KUOW‘s Ruby de Luna reported today on the growing popularity of running-related businesses, including Beth Baker‘s Running Evolution: Beth Baker is a running coach. Rain or shine, Baker and her clients meet every Wednesday at Green Lake Park. Today they’re working on speed drills. Baker: “All right? Skip, skip, skip.” About a dozen adults, mostly women, bring their knees as high as they can as they skip. Free preview of Tristan and Isolde coming to the Green Lake Library

The Green Lake Branch of The Seattle Public Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr N) will host a preview of Seattle Opera’s upcoming production of Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde” on Thursday, July 22, 2-3 p.m. The previews are free and open to the public. No registration is required. “Tristan and Isolde” tells the story of the tragic medieval legend accompanied by Wagner’s influential score. The opera features soprano Annalena Persson as Isolde and tenor Clifton Forbis as Tristan. The preview will include recorded musical excerpts designed to enhance the enjoyment and appreciation of the production.
