Did you see a group of police officers running down Aurora Ave N this morning (Friday, June 4, 2010)?
We received the following note from My Green Lake reader Eva:
This morning at about 9:15 I observed what looked like a police motorcade moving southbound on Aurora Ave near Greenlake. Several police motorcycles and vans were escorting about ten joggers in blue shirts carrying torches.
I could not make out the writing on the shirts or vans, but when I got home the internet told me that what I observed was the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Eva sent us a link to the SPD Blotter, which provides more information about this event:
Law enforcement officers from throughout Washington will run and carry torches across the state of Washington containing the “Flame of Hope” in celebration of Special Olympics Washington’s annual Summer Games.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run Campaign is an international campaign to raise funds and public awareness for Special Olympics programs. The Campaign in Washington is conducted by hundreds law enforcement officers and raises over half a million dollars annually for Special Olympics Washington.
We always appreciate hearing from our readers when they see something happening in the neighborhood. Thanks for the note, Eva!
