Join the Friends of Green Lake to learn about the weevil, an insect that eats milfoil

What do you think? (No Comments) June 18, 2010 at 8:38AM

The Friends of Green Lake (FOGL) are meeting Tuesday (June 22, 2010). The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in The Hearthstone’s Board Room (6720 E. Green Lake Way N).

The meeting will be a follow-up to the April milfoil teach-in. Dr. Mariana Tamayo will present about a small insect that eats invasive water milfoil.

FOGL observers think milfoil, an aquatic weed, has been spreading in Green Lake. Dr. Mariana Tamayo has done research on how to predict which lakes will have an outbreak of milfoil, and on the life-cycle of a native weevil that eats the milfoil plants. She is especially interested in whether weevils can control the spread of invasive milfoil.
