We received the following invitation in the mail today, addressed “To the Neighbors of Fire Station #16″:
Fire Station 16 Open House
6846 Oswego Place NE
June 27, 2010 10 a.m. to noon
YOU ARE INVITED!
See the design of your neighborhood fire station.
Meet your neighborhood firefighters and tour the engine. Families are welcome!
An interim site is needed for Fire Station 16 for a temporary station during construction. During
renovation of the permanent station, the Seattle School District and the City of Seattle have proposed
using a portion of the John Marshall High School parking lot as the interim station site.
Your comments are welcome.

Ed. note: The John Marshall High School, an alternative school, was closed in 2008. It is located at 520 NE Ravenna Blvd.
Update, Wednesday, June 9: Many thanks to “South Greenlake citizen” for leaving the following very helpful comment on this post:
It should probably be mentioned that, while John Marshall School closed in 2008, SPS is now renting out the building to various groups including Northwest Girls Choirs, a German preschool and school and other school-like organizations. I hope they are considering their tenants (and collecting their input!) when proposing to make part of the parking lot a temporary fire station.

Thank you very much, “South Greenlake citizen,” for this helpful comment. I've updated the post with the information you shared.
Thanks again,

I live across from the John Marshall parking lot, and I'm a little nervous about how this will effect the street parking around my house. Since the groups have started using the school building, things have been become much more congested. Hopefully having the SFD take over part of the lot for a while doesn't cause problems…
