There will be a free Hands-Only CPR tutorial at Green Lake Park this Saturday (June 5, 2010), 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
The tutorial will be on the east side of the park, on the grassy area between the parking lot and the lake, between the Green Lake Community Center and the concession stand.
The event is weather dependent. If it is pouring rain, the event will be called off; if there are just a few scattered sprinkles, the event is on.
From the American Heart Association – Puget Sound:
June 1-7 is National CPR Week. Be a lifesaver and learn CPR!
Hands-Only CPR is relatively new way and involves only two steps to save a life: call 911, then push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Spend a few minutes learning this important lifesaving skill at a tutorial organized by the Seattle chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association.
The American Heart Association recommends Hands-Only CPR in cases where you see an adult suddenly collapse with no signs of breathing. (Hands-Only CPR is not recommended on infants and children, or adults who nearly-drown or have cardiac arrest due to a respiratory cause. These cases need traditional CPR.)
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time. Nationally less than one-third of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR, which can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival if provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest.
The American Heart Association has set a goal of educating one million people about CPR this week. Visit www.cprweek.org for different ways you can learn CPR, or to log the fact that you’ve been trained!
