Hula hoops, hoppity hops and giant footballs soared through the air above Green Lake Playfield today (June 18, 2010) as 300-plus students from Daniel Bagley Elementary rolled, wiggled, jumped and kicked their way to fitness for its annual Field Day Friday.
Led by the Health and Fitness program, the event offered more than 15 athletic “stations” to try. The event is non-competitive; there were no prizes, although checking off three stations on your playcard earned junior jocks an ice pop.
The sun stuck around mellowed by a pleasant breeze offering the perfect backdrop for lawn games including sack-races, hurdles, obstacle courses, water games, and the giant shoe race. If you don’t know that event, it requires contestants to race in absurdly oversized footgear, like size 13EEE basketball sneaks.
Piped-in music and facepainting added to the festival feel. The longest line? No contest there: the “ice pop” station.
