Happening now: Outdoor contra dancing at Green Lake Park

A free outdoor contra dance began at 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, June 30, 2010) on the north end of Green Lake (near the intersection of Wallingford Ave N & E Green Lake Dr N. Suit: Stop funding zoo’s ‘cruel’ elephant treatment

2010 citywide chicken coop tour to make several stops in NE Seattle

Host families needed for foreign exchange students this fall

Jamin Henderson of International Student Exchange asked us to share the following information with you: To laugh in another language in your own town don’t happen every day. Hosting a foreign exchange student doesn’t either, but we have a few students coming in the fall that are looking for host families. Why not open your home to a high schooler from a different country and learn about their culture while sharing yours. The Fourth of July in Green Lake: A history

For 60 years, from 1920 until 1980, Green Lake was a prime Fourth of July destination, offering a spectacular fireworks show to crowds that descended on the neighborhood from all over Seattle. Seattle’s Post No. 1 of the American Legion sponsored the show from the event’s inception in 1920 until 1972.  The fireworks, which began at the north shore of Green Lake and then moved to Duck Island, were traditionally preceded by naturalization ceremonies at Woodland Park or the Green Lake Aqua Theater.
