On Sunday, we put out a call for help regarding the mystery of the ODO ‘71 “Rock on…” plaque at Green Lake Park. While we haven’t definitely solved the ODO ‘71 mystery, there has been be a lot of great speculation in the comments to that post, including this note from Casey McNerthney: Another thought was that it was related to Led Zeppelin playing at Green Lake. But that happened in 1969 at the Aqua Theater, and the dismantling of that to it’s current state as the crew house started in 1970. Yes, you heard that right … Led Zeppelin…

A note to My Green Lake's email subscribers
One of the many ways to read My Green Lake content is through an email subscription. Emails are sent to subscribers about once a day and include a compilation of the previous day’s blog posts. Today, we received the following query from Danielle, an email subscriber: Hello! I love receiving [My Green Lake daily emails] thank you. I tend, however to get them a day late (i.e. if there is an event you are announcing same day I get it a day after it happened). Is there something I can do to get them more timely? :( Thank you so…

In addition to smoothies and fresh-squeezed juice, the shop will be serving wraps, salads, sandwiches, stuffed pretzels, and power cookies. More details about the Robeks menu can be found on robeks.com. Welcome to Green Lake, Robeks!

Last week’s armed robbery at the Green Lake Ben & Jerry’s may be connected to two other North Seattle robberies. All three robberies took place on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 and follow a similar pattern: an armed man, face covered, told clerks to count to 100 on the ground. A commenter on the seattlepi.com story has suggested the man be called the “Count to 100 Bandit,” a handle which has also been picked up by My Ballard. More details from Casey McNerthney and our news partners at seattlepi.com: The first case happened at the 7-Eleven in the 3900 block of…
Green Lake's Streetwise Gardener: Build your bliss
I once took a landscape design class perplexingly titled “Understanding Outdoor Space”. What could it mean, I wondered? It turns out, according to instructor, New York-based designer Jan Johnsen, the location of landscape elements needs to pass muster not just aesthetically, but also psychologically. For a garden you will love to use, the arrangement must feel good as well as look good. People are drawn to certain universal patterns of shelter inside and out, which make some places just feel more comfortable than others. Why are corner booths at Zeeks Pizza always the first taken? Ancient, near-forgotten depths of our…
