Eleanor Reynolds, who has been the program’s lead teacher for fifteen years, is retiring.  Her last day is June 25, 2010.  She is moving to to France.

Eleanor is being replaced by Maria Yamaguchi.  Maria has experience working with children at St. John School and at the Green Lake and Northgate Community Centers.

More information about the Green Lake Community Center’s preschool program can be found in the Seattle Parks and Recreation’s North Central Summer 2010 brochure:

PLAY & LEARN
Ages 3 1/2 – 5

Children socialize, play, and learn in a child-centered environment.  An orientation is available for parents who want to learn more on problem solving approaches to behavior.  For more information, please call our teacher Eleanor or Faizah at 206-684-0780.  We offer this class year-round with no breaks.

Best wishes, Eleanor, and congratulations, Maria!

I'm pretty upset to have read this here instead of first learning who my daughter's new preschool teacher would be by the staff at Green Lake. That's pretty inconsiderate of them.

Hi: This is Eleanor. I agree that whoever put this on the internet should have waited until we announced the new teacher. I was not asked, informed or interviewed for this announcement. Also, my last class will be on June 25th. I welcome any communication from former students and their families and wish I could say “good-bye” to each of you in person. Thank you for all the years of fun and affection! I feel very lucky and blessed by all of you!

    Hi Eleanor,

Your retirement was announced by community center administration at the May 18 Green Lake Community Council Advisory Council meeting. Maria, the new teacher, was also introduced at the meeting.

I inquired about publishing this information and was given the go-ahead by those present at the meeting. I'm very sorry to hear that this announcement preceded an announcement to parents.

I would be happy to interview you for a longer story. Please feel free to contact me at anytime at amy@mygreenlake.com or 206-718-5801.

My sincere apologies for the awkward timing of this story.
