Driving down E Green Lake Drive N today (May 12, 2010) around noon, it was hard to miss about a dozen teenagers holding signs with various political messages:
“No Sin Tax”
“No State Income Tax”
“Vote! Even Paris Hilton Can Do It”
“Protect America, Stop Arizona”
“War is a Failure of Politics”
“There are no Dinosaurs in The Bible. Teach Creation in our Schools!”
The kids were getting a great response from passing traffic, including many beeps and honks of agreement.
Wondering what this was all about? It turns out that the enthusiastic sign wavers are students at Bishop Blanchet High School (8200 Wallingford Ave N). Political Science teacher Toby McGill explained that the students pick a topic of their choosing, create the signs, and use them to exercise their right to free speech.
In fact, you may have noticed these students before, as two Blanchet Poli Sci classes come to Green Lake every semester. They’ll be back in November, so be sure to give a honk and wave to these enthusiastic students.

I love it , they are outside my shop each year and its great to see them get them started in political activism at an early age. Most do it for the honks and beeps or to get a reaction but I hope it sticks with them.
I hope that they researched the topic so they might learn the ramifications of what they were supporting.
