The Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club, which is located at the Green Lake Small Craft Center at the southwest corner of Green Lake (5900 West Green Lake Way N), is holding a plant sale this Friday and Saturday (April 23-24, 2010). The sale will be held at the Aqua Theater, located right next to the Small Craft Center. Sale hours are 4-8 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday. Wi-Fi is now available at the Green Lake Community Center
Happy day! Wi-Fi (a.k.a. wireless internet access) has come to the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). Log on to either the GreenLake or GreenLakeCC network to access the free wifi. No password is needed. I got a very strong connection while sitting in the community center’s Teen Lounge during tonight’s Green Lake Community Center Advisory Council meeting. I haven’t tried accessing the network outside the building yet, but my fingers are crossed that it has a far reach. If you find the outer bounds of connectivity, please share your findings. Bethany Community Church building is DJC's Project of the Month
A Green Lake building has just become the Daily Journal of Commerce and the Seattle chapter of the American Institute of Architects‘ latest Project of the Month. The building, which was completed in February 2008, is the newest addition to Bethany Community Church, located in north Green Lake at 1156 N 80th St. Around 3,000 people attend the church every Sunday. While numbers like this could present a large impact to the neighborhood, the church worked with the community and with Daniel Bagley Elementary School, located across the street from the church, to prevent parking and traffic issues. Graffiti in Green Lake
Have you noticed a bit of an uptick in the amount of graffiti in Green Lake? I’ve been wincing every time I drive by a particularly large set of tags that popped up recently along a cement wall on East Green Lake Drive N. In order to not give the tagger any more glory, I’m not posting a picture of these tags. You’ve probably seen them too, though. They are hard to miss.
