Big changes at Cafe Lulu: Wi-Fi, lunch, and longer hours

Cafe LuluExcellent news, east Green Lakers!

Beloved coffee shop Cafe Lulu, a fixture at 6417 Latona Ave NE since 1996, is undergoing some changes for the better.

  • Free Wi-Fi is now available to Cafe Lulu patrons and, come late May, there will be a major seating renovation to better facilitate laptop use.  Long-time patrons of the coffee shop shouldn’t worry, though.  Owner Karen Laurie promises that the cafe will retain its community feel.
  • Lunch items will soon be on the menu, including sandwiches priced under $6.
  • And…drum roll…the cafe will, beginning soon, be closing at 5 p.m. (the current weekday closing time is 2 p.m. and the weekend closing time is 3 p.m.)

    I LOVE Cafe Lulu, but it was not here in 1994. That space was a sport card shop in 1995. I think Cafe Lulu opened no earlier than 1996 or 1997.

    @latonamom…Ahhh, you're right. I took over Cafe Lulu from the original owner and I've alwasys recalled her talking about the concept and planning for Lulus in late 1994, but I just checked her original lease and it was signed in 1996. I'll have to change that on the my website. However, I'm fairly certain that the previous tenant was Latona Hair Design. I still get junk mail for them and I recall pictures of the original remodel, but I could be wrong. We also hear a lot about the original Scarecrow Video being in our building and yes, a card shop of sorts too. I'll have to ask my landlord for a timeline of tenants, that would be nice to track for our little corner.
