Gearing up for a near-total makeover of its “Garden Classroom,” first installed circa 1994, Daniel Bagley Elementary parents turned out this morning (Saturday, April 3, 2010) for a Clean-Up work party to clear out debris, cultivate and weed planting beds, and relocate existing plants. Nearly 20 volunteers pitched in, many bringing their own tools – cheers went up when one man arrived pushing a wheelbarrow. With an eye towards applying for potential grants, names were taken to count the total volunteer hours.
Trudy Tessaro, a parent co-chair, says plans are in the works with Greenlake Wines for a future winetasting fundraiser.
The new plan will be announced later this week, but we know one new element will be a bed of assorted berry plants along the garden’s east wall. Yum.
