Green Lake's Streetwise Gardener: Volunteer at Bagley Elementary's teaching garden

What do you think? (7 Comments) April 24, 2010 at 10:28AM

Even if they spend most of their time with the worms, kids learn a lot about science and nature in the garden while having a blast.

Daniel Bagley Elementary School is renovating its teaching garden and invites the community to help at an upcoming work party. Come even for an hour, ready to dig, and bring tools if you have them.

1 – 4 pm
Daniel Bagley Elementary
7821 Stone Way (enter through playground at 80th St. N)
Kids can help and are welcome at this event!

The (Bagley) Bees in the Garden Committee writes:

Our goal is to create a beautiful, inviting and practical space that all DBE classrooms can use and enjoy. We will clear the garden of benches, compost bins and rain barrel. Then we’ll level the area with rakes, put down cardboard and newspaper for some more sheet mulching, and put down tarps to kill the grass and weeds.  Please bring shovels and rakes!

I am volunteering at the Tilth Sale the same 4 hours that day BUT I have lots of seeds (mostly veggies) and perennials I can donate as you need. Many organic cilantro, kale, spinach, and parcel plants (they look like parsley but taste like celery). Also have lots of bean and pea seeds I can donate….and squash:) Lindy

    Dear Linda,

I think we aren't expecting to be ready to plant much for a while – but thank you for the offer!
