Ed. note: Thank you, Anika, for another edition of Green Lake Vegan Score:
Considering trying a vegan diet, but not sure where to start? Been vegan for a while but thinking that you could be eating a bit healthier? Just a terrible cook and want to take a class?
If so, then the other side of I-5 has a little event to offer you: Go-Go Vegan with Mario & Jim — A Beginner’s Guide to Adapting a Vegan Diet. Part lecture, part demonstration, and part hands-on cooking class, this dinner party will teach 16 Green Lake and Roosevelt residents how to replace dairy, integrate other proteins, and work with the veggies in common recipes.
Date: Wednesday, March 31, 2010
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Roosevelt Whole Foods, (1026 NE 64th St., Seattle WA 98115)
Guest Chefs: Store Team Leader, Mario Menses and Produce Team Leader, Jim Hesketh
Cost: $35
Jim and Mario plan to start with a 15 -30 minute lecture on the challenges of converting to vegan and how to do so without compromising essential nutrients. Then they’ll show and sample some of the best alternatives foods that are available at the Roosevelt Whole Foods. Next they will explore some recipes- breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course, dessert. Yum! This event is for everyone, not just those exploring a vegan diet.
The class will share, eat and enjoy everything that is cooked together — 5 to 6 recipes total!
Mario and Jim are working on the final menu plan. When it is ready, they will post the menu online for folks who have signed up! Perhaps vegan enchiladas? RSVP here.
Two of my favorite things on the planet: vegan food and learning. Seattle is such a good town.
