Police helicopters over Green Lake

What do you think? (6 Comments) March 28, 2010 at 12:07AM

Did you hear the helicopters earlier tonight (Saturday, March 29, 2010)?

Beginning at 11:14 p.m., reports of helicopter noise started to come across twitter:

“what’s with all the helicopter activity around NW Greenlake???”

11:39 p.m.:

“whoa. something’s up in the NE–6 SPD and a stater just sped through at a good 70mph.”

We don’t know much at this point, but thanks to Jonah Spangenthal over at SeattleCrime.com we’ve got a little bit of information for you.  At 12:01 a.m., Jonah tweeted:

“Just heard from SPD that choppers were over greenlake awhile ago looking for a reckless driver.”

We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know if we find out anything more.  If you have any information, drop us a line at tips@mygreenlake.com.

It sounds like the wreckless drivers may have been the cops.

Sounds like a different event, but at about 11:15 pm last night, at the corner of NE 72nd St and 6th Ave NE (the off-ramp from I-5 south), we heard/saw an undercover cop SUV pull a car over, scream at them to get out/get down/etc, and the cop had his gun drawn in super-authoritative stance. The guy was immediately taken down and cuffed, and put in the back of the SUV. Within minutes, 6 cop cars were there for back-up and they seemed to be talking/consulting with each other forever. A tow truck pulled up and took the guy's car away. Biggest, loudest arrest I've ever seen live! Anyone hear of this or see it or know what it was about?
